Gelidium

High Quality Microbiological Agar ~

Gelidium is a higher-grade agar used to develop Petri dishes that support bacteria cultures in research projects. Gelidium can only be harvested from the ocean. It cannot be cultivated. It’s also a primary ingredient for Drosophila Research (fruit fly food).

Model organisms are species that are studied to understand the biology of other organisms, often humans. Fruit flies share 75% of the genes that cause disease with humans, so scientists can learn about human genetics by studying fruit fly genetics. There are hundreds of labs across the country who are entirely dedicated to studying fruit flies.

Gelidium agar has a low gelling temperature (34 to 36 degrees Celsius) that allows scientists to add ingredients to the agar with a minimum risk of heat damage. It doesn’t contain trace metals, soluble carbohydrates, carbohydrates or any spores that would inhibit bacterial growth. Gelidium offers all this as well as strong, clear gels.

Scientists in the lab need agars that do not interfere with bacterial growth or bring their own interactions to a Petri dish. Gelidium offers these exclusive traits-not to mention its gel strength (700g/cm2), and great clarity.

MoorAgar’s Gelidium is used in most research labs and science departments across the United States.
